Behind-the-scenes footage reveals how 15 iPhone 17 Pro Max devices, some with Fujifilm broadcast lenses, captured the LA Galaxy versus Houston Dynamo match

Several behind-the-scenes clips have been released showing how Apple TV captured the Major League Soccer (MLS) match between Los Angeles Galaxy and Houston Dynamo entirely on iPhone 17 Pro Max phones.

The match, which took place Saturday, 23 May, was the first time this smartphone has been used to shoot a professional live sporting event broadcast.

Apple’s MLS Instagram account shared a short clip showing the iPhone 17 Pro Max being used, and the output it generated (see below).

More revealing, though, is a longer clip US content creator Brian Tong shared on YouTube (see below).

This shows the Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max phones on the pitch and in the stands at Dignity Sports Health Park in Carson, California. Imagery was captured directly from the phone’s camera lens, while others are hooked up to Fujifilm Fujinon broadcast lenses in a similar way to how much bulkier and expensive systems cameras are used for live sports.

All the phone feeds were sent to the OB truck on-site at the stadium.

The 15 iPhone 17 Pro Max phones were running the Blackmagic Camera App and recording in Apple Log 2 at 1080p60.
