Users can point phone camera at a TV and instantly see information and services related to what is playing

Stingr Tech is debuting Stingr, its second screen interactivity app, at MPTS 2026.
The trade show, which takes place 13-14 May at Olympia London, will see the launch of the app, which allows users to point their camera at a TV screen and instantly see information and services related to what is playing.
This includes live, time-shifted or on demand content, or even if it is dubbed from another language. The functionality can be embedded into a broadcaster, production company or sport organisation’s existing apps too.
The Stingr system incorporates the user app elements, the image database and the backend processing. New content can be added into the database within a couple of seconds, so live sports can be available to Stingr apps in the time it takes to encode and deliver the broadcast video.
Alistair Horne, one of the founders of Stingr Tech, told Broadcast Tech, “The technology is designed for simple integration into user technology. A broadcaster, a production company or a sports governing body can implement Stingr into their own apps. A popular programme may well already have its own app: now it incorporates seamless interactivity. No need to open a specific app, again eliminating a level of friction.
“The owner of the content is the owner of the app is the owner of the search - giving broadcasters direct access to added revenues, money which otherwise would have gone to a third party. The friction-free interactivity may well mean that viewers are more likely to investigate and potentially purchase from the content of the programme.
“Sports teams and federations are likely to see this as a way of building engagement and adding excitement to a competition. Broadcasters could use the second screen for signing, meaning that any transmission at any time is a signed version, not just special transmissions in the middle of the night. In the UK Ofcom is continually pressing for more signed output, and is open to new technologies to allow this to be achieved.”
Stingr will be available to see on Hornets Tech’s stand, J28, at MPTS 2026.
