Turner Broadcasting is to start renting shows from comedy channel Adult Swim via Facebook as the broadcaster adopts a micro-payments model.

Robot Chicken, Aqua Teen Hungerforce, Metalocalypse, Superjail! and Tim and Eric Awesome Show and Great Job! are now available to rent for 48 hours for 10 Facebook Credits, around 63p, via the Adult Swim profile page on Facebook.

The first episode of each series will be available to the group’s 23,500 fans for free.

The move follows deals with and digital agency Essence and e-commerce specialists Milonyi which have developed the Social Cinema video-on-demand app which streams the Turner content.

Anthony Lukom, vice president and general manager for UK & Ireland of Turner said the channel had built a loyal online following.

“Adult Swim is a brand which has built its success around online engagement and is known for being at the cusp of all that is new and innovative, and we’re delighted to be augmenting our online activity by offering free show content on the world’s biggest social platform,” said Lukom.

David Raycroft, vice president of product and operations at Milyoni added: “With an already highly engaged following, the added social features embedded into Social Cinema will allow Adult Swim fans to experience the shows with their friends no matter what time of day or night.”
