Unique Productions is to lose another lucrative contract when its BBC Radio 2 show with Richard Allinson is axed, writes Michael Rosser.
The company, part of UBC Media, has produced the 90-minute strand - broadcast weeknights from 22.30 - for the past eight years.DJ Mark Radcliffe, who will end his R1 show with Marc "Lard" Riley on 26 March, will replace Allinson from 7 June. Allinson will continue to present his Saturday afternoon show for the station, but this is produced in-house at the BBC.The news is a further blow to Unique, which lost production duties on chart show Hit 40 UK after 10 years last November to indie Somethin' Else. The move is one of a series of changes made by R2 and 6 Music controller Lesley Douglas, which includes new shows for Dermot O'Leary and Mariella Frostrup.
