BBC2’s new comedy drama Vexed has been bought by broadcasters in New Zealand and Belgium.

The light-hearted detective series launched on Sunday night in a 9pm slot and scored an audience of 2.26m (9.4%) for BBC2 and came close to beating commercial heavyweight ITV1 across the hour.

The 3 x 60-minute series has now been picked up by New Zealand’s TVNZ and Belgium’s VRT, sold by distributor DRG.

It was produced by Greenlit Rights, which has been revealed to be in administration.

The indie’s ITV1 drama, Collision, was sold into more than 60 territories earlier this year.

Patrick Roberts, senior vice president of international sales at DRG, said the distributor was “finalising multiple international deals” for Vexed.

Lucy Punch and Toby Stephens play Kate and Jack, detectives whose personal lives are as complicated as the criminal cases they investigate.

The series was written by Howard Overman (Misfits, Merlin) and directed by Matt Lipsey (Psychoville, Saxondale, Little Britain).
