Yahoo has begun offering football fans access to highlights of Barclays Premier League matches after securing a three-year online rights deal.

The online giant will feature five-minute video highlights of each game, along with features including Best Goals, Best Saves and Tactical Debate, from today to its 24m UK unique users.

Yahoo will also include previews of forthcoming games and allow fans to share the content via Facebook and Twitter.

The content will be funded by pre-roll ad campaigns with a range of clients including Adidas, BT, Heineken and Sony Pictures and be backed by a multi-million pound marketing campaign - with the tagline “Miss a game? We didn’t” - run in partnership with radio station XFM.

Mark Rabe, managing director of Yahoo UK, said the highlights would appeal to new and existing fans.

“For the casual or serious football fan, it’s the best bits of the weekend’s action - perfect to catch up on games you may have missed, for sharing with friends and for being part of the conversation at work on Monday,” said Rabe.

Yahoo signed up the rights to offer Premier League highlights online for three years in April, taking them away from previous holder Virgin Media.

Sports broadcaster ESPN begun offering mobile highlights, for £3.99 per month, via an app from this season.
