5 News editor Cristina Nicolotti Squires has been appointed director of content at Sky News.
Nicolotti Squires will take charge of news output across all Sky platforms including TV, mobile, social media and radio in the new year.
She will also head up special programming including Sky News documentaries, debate programmes and weekly panel show The Pledge.
As a key member of Sky News’ senior leadership team, Nicolotti Squires will work closely with head of Sky News John Ryley, deputy Graham McWilliams and director of newsgathering and operations Jonathan Levy.
Nicolotti Squires’ career encompasses a 22-year stretch at ITN where she held positions including assistant editor and head of output for ITV News, programme editor for ITV News at Ten and programme editor for ITV lunchtime news. She joined Channel 5 in 2013.
Ryley described Nicolotti Squires as “one of the most accomplished and experienced” figures in the news industry.
He added: “She has a strong record of leading and inspiring teams and making bold decisions. I know she will be a dynamic and creative force in the newsroom.”
Nicolotti Squires said: “It’s time for a new chapter in my career.”
