Senna is in pole position at this year’s Focal International Awards, with the documentary nominated in three categories.

The Focal International Awards, now in its ninth year, celebrates the best use of archive footage material. It also recognises the researchers, technicians and producers that access, maintain and use archive footage.

Bafta-winning documentary Senna has been nominated in three categories while Queen - Days of Our Lives has been nominated in two categories.

BBC Entertainment dominates the category Best Use of Footage in an Entertainment or Drama Production.

“We’ve had a wonderful response for this year’s awards, with more than 180 submissions from 18 countries,” said Focal International general manager Julie Lewis.

“The quality of entries is exceptionally high, giving the judges an unenviable task to choose between them.”

Entries have been received from Lebanon, Martinique and Thailand as well as across Western and Eastern Europe, the USA, Canada and Australia.

The ninth annual Focal International awards, in association with AP Archive, take place on 2 May 2012 at the Lancaster London Hotel.
