BBC1 spin-off reaches half-way point as MasterChef returns
The second series of BBC1’s Beyond Paradise reached its half-way point on Friday. Meanwhile, MasterChef cooked up some consistent fare.
Not made available as box set, episode three of Beyond Paradise on 5 April at 8pm achieved an overnight rating of 3.6 million/27% – the highest of the run so far. However, after 1.6 million caught up on TV after seven days, it rose to 5.2 million/32% (no device data available) – relegating it to the lowest of either run so far.
The second series opened on Friday 22 March at 8pm with 3.5 million/25% in overnights, rising to 6 million/33% after 2.5 million caught up on TV. Including 106,000 from devices, it totalled 6.1 million – still 1.4 million shy of the first series debut on 22 March 2023 at 8pm. That pulled in 7.5 million, including 7.4 million/37% on TV and 145,000 on devices – the show’s highest so far.
At its half-way point, Beyond Paradise is averaging 5.6 million/32%, rising to 5.7 million including 65,000 on devices. That is 1.5 million fewer than the first series at the same stage, which was averaging 7.2 million, including 7 million/36% on TV and 133,000 on devices.
Beyond Paradise is averaging 3.1 million/35% for ABC1s, more than 1 million shy of last year (4.2 million/43%).
MasterChef returned for its 20th series on BBC1 at 8.30pm on Easter Monday with an overnight rating of 2.7 million/21%, rising to 3.5 million/24% after 768,000 caught up within seven days. With 64,000 from devices, it totalled 3.6 million – the best of the series’ first week.
The 2024 launch was more or less par with the 19th run, which opened on Monday 10 April 2023 at 8pm with 3.4 million/18% plus 55,000 on devices. It was nearly 300,000 shy of the 2022 launch on Wednesday 23 March at 8pm (3.9 million, including 3.8 million/21% on TV and 72,000 on devices). The best launch for MasterChef since 2010 is the 2016 debut (5.6 million/25%).
The first week of three episodes this year averaged 3.2 million/23% plus 37,000 on devices after seven days, only a fraction behind 2023 (3.3 million/18% plus 53,000 on devices) and only 214,000 shy of 2022 (3.4 million/18% plus 64,000 on devices). The best first weekly average since 2010 was 2015 (5.7 million/25%).
