Live-action series was axed by Disney last year after filming
Amazon Prime Video has acquired Disney’s live-action series Nautilus in the UK and Ireland.
The 10-episode drama was originally commissioned by Disney+ in the UK but was axed by the streamer in August last year after it was filmed as part of cost cuts. The streamer then moved to sell the UK Original series, with AMC acquiring the title for the US and Canada, France TV picking it up for France and SVT Play for Sweden.
Inspired by Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Nautilus follows the origin story of Captain Nemo, an Indian prince seeking vengeance on the East India Mercantile Company. Shazad Latif stars in the series alongside Georgia Flood, Thierry Fremont and Céline Menville while guest actors include Richard E Grant, Anna Torv and Noah Taylor.

It was developed and produced by Moonriver TV’s Xavier Marchand and Anand Tucker from Seven Stories - an All3Media backed company - written and executive produced by James Dormer and executive produced by Johanna Devereaux, Chris Loveall, Colleen Woodcock and Daisy Gilbert. Cameron Welsh serves as producer and Michael Matthews as lead director with later episodes directed by Ben Lucas and Isabelle Sieb.
The series will launch exclusively on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland on 25 October 2024.
The acquisition deal was struck by Prime Video UK head of TV Hannah Blyth. Nautilus is distributed by Disney Entertainment and acknowledges the support from the Australian Government’s Location Incentive and from the Queensland Government via Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy.
