Technology service provider Ascent Media has secured a multi-million pound contract with French broadcaster Television Francaise 1 (TF1).

Ascent will design and build a tapeless production system for the broadcaster's news and sports programming.

It will also create a back up production system that mirrors the live facility's workflow as part of its recovery management. The company is also building a test and development system that will allow TF1 to look at system updates and test new platforms as they emerge.

Installation will take 12 months and Ascent says the first systems will be operational by mid 2008.
Ascent has secured a five year contract for the provision of technical support as part of the contract.

TF1 chief technology officer Giles Maugars said: “Ascent Media's open platform approach offers flexibility and scalability and the company has the technical know-how and resources to support our project in the long term.”
