A website offering clips from the BBC archive has attracted a quarter of a million visitors since launching last month, and now hip-hop duo DJs Coldcut have created a music video from the footage.

As part of its Creative Archive project the BBC has made 100 programme extracts available online for non-commercial use on its website, www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/superstarvjs and is running a contest to build a three-minute mix from the clips. The winner will be given VJ equipment and have their video put online.

Coldcut have been drafted in a judges, and have helped launch the competition by creating an exclusive video for their new single, using Creative Archive footage.

The scheme is run by the BBC, along with the British Film Institute, Channel 4, the Open University, Teachers TV and The Community Channel.
