BBC1 has ordered a second series of comedy chat show The Matt Lucas Awards.
The series, which began life on Radio 2, sees Little Britain star Lucas chatting to a range of celebrity guests as they decide who should receive awards from bizarre categories such as “smuggest nation” and “most moreish food”.
BBC1 controller Danny Cohen and comedy controller Cheryl Taylor ordered the second run. The new series will begin recording this autumn.
Guests in the first series included Ruth Jones, Richard Madeley, Johnny Vegas, Sue Perkins and David Baddiel. It also featured regular contributions from film composer David Arnold and Matt’s mother, Diana.
The co-production between John Stanley Productions and BBC’s in house comedy team was series produced by Ashley Blaker and produced by Richard Grocock.
The original seven-part run opened with consolidated viewing figures of 2.48m (15.74%), slightly under the slot average of 2.6m (16.57%), falling away until it closed with just 1.3m (9.36%).
