Corporation acquires Jungle Entertainment comedy drama for youth-skewing brand and iPlayer
BBC3 has picked up Australian whodunnit comedy drama He Had It Coming.
Produced by Jungle Entertainment for local steamer Stan, the university-set series follows two women who accidentally become embroiled in a murder case after their drunken vandalism of a statue of the university’s male founder becomes the site where a university’s star athlete is found murdered.
He Had It Coming stars Big Mood’s Lydia West, The Voyeurs’ Natasha Liu Bordizzo and Yellowjackets’ Liv Hewson and includes a special appearance from Australian popstar Cody Simpson (Smiley Face Killers) as the murder victim.
Head of BBC programme acquisition Nick Lee said: “He Had it Coming is a fun, pacey campus whodunnit with a vibrant poke into gender politics.
“It’s deliciously dark, comic and has a very bingeable vibe.”
Created and written by Gretel Vella (The Great) and Craig Anderson (Double The Fist), with writers Emme Hoy (Renegade Nell), Belinda King (Wellmania), Nick Coyle (Bump) and Hannah Samuel (The Heights), the series is directed by Rachel House (Mountain) and Anne Renton (The Good Doctor).
Alongside West and Liu Bordizzo, the executive producers are Gretel Vella, with Chloe Rickard, Shay Spencer, Bridget Callow-Wright, Robert Taylor, Ellie Gibbons, Cailah Scobie and Alicia Brown.
The title is distributed by Fifth Season. It will be available on iPlayer from Saturday 8 August and will air on BBC3 at 11:15pm on Friday 15 August.
