Suranne Jones-led drama has been off air for eight years

The BBC is reportedly eyeing the return of its hit drama Doctor Foster, eight years after the second series aired.
Reports have suggested that Suranne Jones will reprise the titular role of Gemma Foster, a GP who takes revenge on her cheating husband when she discovers he has been cheating with a younger woman. The second run of the Mike Bartlett-penned drama focused on the impact of her husband returning to her inner circle with his new family.
It has been reported that filming could start next year, with a view to the third series of the Drama Republic title airing at the end of 2026 or early 2027.
The BBC declined to comment.
Doctor Foster was a ratings smash when it aired for the first time, becoming the highest-rated new drama of 2015. Its finale reached a consolidated audience of 10.1m (37%) and a consolidated series average of 8.2m (31%).

The second series aired two years later and concluded with a consolidated 9.8m (40%), and a consolidated average of 8.9m (35%).
It also starred Jodie Comer in one of her first major TV roles as the love interest of Doctor Foster’s husband Simon, played by Bertie Carvel.
Drama Republic has more recently produced dramas including BBC1’s Riot Women and Netflix’s One Day. Jones has recently been on-screen in ITV1’s Frauds and is also the central figure of hit BBC1 drama Vigil, which is returning for a third series.
