Second series of High Hoops ordered ahead of series one launch
The BBC has ordered a second series of kids comedy High Hoops, starring Peep Show alumni Robert Webb and Isy Suttie, ahead of the first series launch.
Produced by Rebecca Papworth’s Yorkshire-based indie CanCan Productions (Home From Home), the 10-episode first series is set to debut on CBBC at 6.25pm this evening and has just landed as a boxset on iPlayer.
Filmed in Halifax, West Yorkshire, it stars Darci Hull as an ambitious schoolgirl Aoife, who finds her place on her new high school’s terrible basketball team and sets about trying to turn around its fortunes. Webb plays the school’s headteacher while Suttie plays Aoife’s mum and Line of Dury’s Nigel Boyle plays her basketball coach.
Director BBC children’s and education Patricia Hidalgo said: “Working with CanCan Productions, who are well-known for grown-up comedy, is a new venture for us in BBC Children’s & Education and we’re so confident that audiences will love High Hoops that we’ve already commissioned a second series.
“It has a stellar cast with Robert Webb, Isy Suttie and Nigel Boyle and the children’s cast are also amazing. Darci Hull as Aoife is one to watch, she will go far.”
The series is written and created by Sinéad Fagan, with producer Dominique Molloy and lead director Ian Curtis. It was ordered by Hidalgo, Sarah Muller, Melissa Hardinge and Anita Burgess and international distribution is being handled by APC Kids.
CanCan is also behind the BBC1 comedy Home From Home, starring Johnny Vegas, Joanna Page, Adam James and Emilia Fox.
