The BFI National Archive has installed a DFT Scanity HDR film scanner at its Conservation Centre in Berkhamsted to assist with the ongoing digitisation of the UK’s fi lm and television archive.

The scanner, purchased using Lottery funding, will be used to remove scratches and dust, as well as enhance pictures stored on delicate/ damaged film from a variety of formats, some dating back to the 19th century.

In total, 10,000 titles will be digitised and made available online via the BFI Player in a project that runs through to March 2017.
