Blackmagic Design has released a free iPad app that allows Ursa Mini Pro users to control their cameras via Bluetooth

The Camera Control app is based on an open protocol and allows operators to send and received commands from up to 30 feet away.

Using the app, all major settings can be adjusted, metadata can be added and recording can be triggered. Suggested uses include cameras on cranes or drones or inside underwater housings.

Users will need to update their cameras to version 4.4 software in order to enable the Bluetooth connectivity.

The open protocol and an associated developer API, along with sample code, will be made publically available later this summer to allow users to develop their own camera control options.

Blackmagic Design chief executive Grant Petty said: “Customers are going to have the tools they need to build completely custom remote control solutions of their own design using the new Bluetooth support.”
