‘Incredible casting and bringing us scenes that we haven’t seen on television before, with real honesty and bravery from the contributors and crew’

Rare TV for BBC3

Rare TV’s three-parter offers viewers extraordinary access to offenders Jody, Amie and Stacey as they try to stick to their court-mandated curfews, serve out their sentences and refrain from reoffending, while battling drug addiction, poverty, isolation and the loss of their children.

“Tough access on an often-forgotten demographic,” said one judge, while another praised the “extraordinary” access, which was handled in a “non-judgemental and compassionate” manner.

It was an extremely hard programme for Rare TV to cast as the women gained nothing from appearing in it and knew that evidence of their criminality would be seen by millions.

Despite this, the women’s resilience, humour and optimism shines through and their openness won universal praise from the judges. “Incredible casting and bringing us scenes that we haven’t seen on television before, with real honesty and bravery from the contributors and crew,” said one.

Another praised the series as a “great use of short-form.”

Tagged is one of the best-performing doc series on BBC3 and was seen by a largely underserved demographic. More than 40% of viewers were under 35, with a third of these under 24.
