Former Paramount TV Studios boss relocating to London as part of the move
Nicole Clemens, the former head of Paramount Television Studios (PTVS), has been appointed vice president and head of international originals for Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios.
Clemens will oversee the development and production of films and series across more than 20 territories, while also managing teams across Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific.
She joins on 7 July and will initially work out of Amazon MGM Studios’ Culver City HQ, before relocating to London.
Clemens takes up part of the remit held by recently departed James Farrell and reports into Kelly Day, who was promoted to become head of Prime Video’s international originals teams in the wake of Jen Salke’s abrupt exit at the end of March.
Prime Video’s heads of international originals will report into Clemens, including Javiera Balmaceda (LatAm, Canada & Australia), Tara Erer (Northern Europe), Nicole Morganti (Southern Europe) and John Holmes (director of international originals production & post).
Nikhil Madhok (India) will be part of Clemens’ leadership team but reports into Gaurav Gandhi (VP, Prime Video APAC & MENA), while Marc Hausmaninger (head of content strategy, international originals) and Sam Semon (head of international business affairs) will also work with Clemens and her division.
Clemens most recently served as president of PTVS, which shuttered in August, where she looked after a slate that included Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Reacher and Cross (Prime Video), Taika Waititi’s Time Bandits and the Weitz Brother’s Murderbot (Apple TV+) and the upcoming Little House On The Prairie reboot (Netflix).
Her credits during her six-year tenure also included Station Eleven (HBO Max), The Offer (Paramount+), Shantaram (Apple TV+) and Mike Flanagan’s The Haunting anthology (Netflix).
Clemens also held the dual role of president of original scripted series for Paramount+, shepherding the streamer’s launch series Halo and the Star Trek franchise.
She executive produced UK crime drama Sexy Beast, a spin-off of the cult 2000s film, with Paramount Television International Studios, and oversaw BBC co-production The Gold, both for Paramount+.
Prior to Paramount, Clemens served as a producer at Anonymous Content and previous to that spent five years at FX Networks as executive vice president and head of series development, where her slate included Atlanta, Better Things and You’re the Worst.
Clemens started her career at ICM Partners where she spent 16 years and ultimately became a partner and head of the motion picture literary department. She also had stints at Rod Holcomb Productions and Spelling Television.
Her new role spans a slate of more than 140 international originals, ranging from the UK’s Clarkson’s Farm and Germany’s Maxton Hall to Spanish film trilogy Culpa Nuestra, and hit comedy format LOL: Last One Laughing, which has been remade around the world.
Upcoming series include Costiera from Italy, Korea’s Newtopia, Superboys of Malegaon from India, and Spanish drama Graduation Trip: Mallorca.
In a staff memo detailing the hire seen by Broadcast International, Day described Clemens as “a highly respected and experienced media executive” who would help the streamer “continue building on the incredible success we’ve seen with global audiences.”
She added: “I’m so proud of the work we’ve done, and I know Nicole’s leadership will take us to even greater heights.”
