Paradoxes is being produced by Mediawan’s Imagissime and has secured R&D support from Google

Arte France has ordered a sci-fi comedy that combines live action and generative AI from Mediawan-owned producer Imagissime.

Paradoxes is being produced with French immersive content outfit Atlas V and has also secured research and development funding from Google, according to Variety which broke the story.

The six-part series is being co-produced by Arte France, with Mediawan Rights selling to rest of world.

Maxime Donzel and Emilie Valentin are writers, with Pierre Zandrowicz directing.

The series follows a depressed journalist who inadvertently enters a physical world based on his subsconscious thoughts. The story tracks the journalist and his therapist’s attempts to manage the situation.

Funding from France’s CNC and regional support from the Île-de-France has also been secured on the show, which has started filming.

Imagissime is run by Elodie Polo Ackerman and has been known to date for its docs output, including Féroces for France TV, Gaialand for Arte, X vs X for Canal+, and Netflix’s Who Killed Little Gregory, the latter marking the streamer’s first French original.

The production company was acquired by European group Mediawan when it bought Lagardère Studios in 2020.

Atlas V, meanwhile, uses emerging tech to create visuals and has worked on numerous specials and features, including an interactive virtual reality show based on Aardman Animation’s Wallace & Gromit.
