Atresmedia in Spain has greenlit three scripted originals for its streaming serrvice Atresplayer, including a Galicia-based series from Banijay’s Portocabo and two shows from Buendía Estudios Canarias.

Portocabo’s Ágata y Lola is described as a “luminous procedural” that tracks the story of two policewomen, according to Atresmedia’s head of fiction Montse García.

It is joined by noir drama Trazos Ocultos, which is set on the island of Tenerife and explores how the apparently perfect life of a woman is shaken by her husband’s lies and secrets.

The third series, A La Deriva, is also from Buendía Estudios Canarias together with Mediawan’s Boomerang TV. The show is set in the 1970s on the high seas and is about the return of a group of fishermen whose boat drifts away.

Atresmedia has also renewed several series for a second season, including romantic-erotic comedy ¿A Qué Estás Esperando? (What Are You Waiting For?), which Atresplayer said was its most watched title on the service last year.

YA reboot Física o Química; drama La Ruta, now set in Ibiza; and Entre Tierras, an adaptation of Italian series La Sposa, have also been extended, while Los Protegidos is coming back for a third season.

Atresmedia has also confirmed that blockbuster saga Padre No Hay Más Que Uno will become a series next year, following five feature films.

The show’s join an expanding slate for Atresmedia, with one of its biggest bets being an adaptation of Sira, the novel that continues the story of superhit book and series El Tiempo Entre Costuras (2013).

Buendía Estudios and Netflix are on board of this project, which has “very international” ambitions. Shooting will begin this autumn.

Book adaptations are a priority for Atresmedia: the company also has Las Hijas de la Criada (aka The Maids’ Daughters) based on the female-skewing novel, and La Nena, which will close the thriller trilogy composed of La Novia Gitana and La Novia.

All the series will be launched on Atresplayer, but only some will subsequently be broadcast on free-to-air channel Antena 3. Details have not yet been revealed.
