Show is based on YouTube videos posted by local creator Roni Bäck
Banijay Entertainment has picked up international rights to Finnish format All Star Hide and Seek, marking the second deal involving the childhood game in a week.
Banijay’s deal for Roni Bäck: Finland’s Biggest Hide and Seek has been struck with Rabbit Films, which produced the format for streamer Ruuti+ in 2024.
A second season of the show, which features local creator talent Roni Bäck, debuted on the platform in October this year. The show was created by Toot Finland and evolved out of Bäck’s YouTube hide-and-seek videos.
All Star Hide and Seek features influencers and TV personalities hiding across extraordinary real-world locations – from amusement parks to cultural landmarks – while the host deploys clever and creative tactics to track them down.
“The format’s YouTube style pace, with 22-minute length episodes designed for streaming audiences, culminates in a high-stake finale for a cash prize,” the synopsis reads.
Helen Greatorex, head of format acquisitions at Banijay Entertainment, said the format could be adapted to budget levels and would “engage audiences with real-world locations and gripping storytelling.”
Banijay has been expanding its third-party format slate over the past year, striking deals for board game adaptation Werewolves, TBS’s Ninja Warrior, and competitive knitting series The Game of Wool from Hello Halo for Channel 4.
News of Banijay’s pick-up comes in the same week that Fox Entertainment and Talpa Studios revealed they had partnered up on a format billed as a “larger-than-life game of hide and seek”.
The House of Hide & Seek sees six celebrity contestants hiding in a gigantic two-story house, which contains more than 120 hiding spots. Celebrities have to evade searchers while carrying a prize pot, with the show set to debut on RTL Nederlands next year.
