Format features celebrity contestants taking part in a supersized version of childhood game

Fox Entertainment and Talpa Studios have partnered up on a new format that is billed as a “larger-than-life game of hide and seek”, with RTL Nederlands to debut the show next year.

The House of Hide & Seek will see six celebrity contestants hiding in a gigantic two-story house, which contains more than 120 hiding spots.

Secret passages, unexpected doors and concealed spaces will give the house “an escape-room-like thrill”, Talpa said, with contestants required to solve a visual puzzle to add money to a portable vault called a ‘moneyball’.

They then hide while holding the moneyball and must avoid being discovered to avoid elimination. In the grand finale, the last two players go head-to-head: one hides with the final Moneyball, the other has limited time to find them, with winnings going to charity.

The Dutch version has been commissioned by RTL 4 in the Netherlands and will premiere on the broadcaster - now owned by DPG Media - in 2026. It will also become available on sibling streamer Videoland.

A US version has not been confirmed but Talpa said the partnership with Fox Entertainment Studios “naturally positions” the format for a potential US adaptation.

The format has been created by Talpa, Fox and David Grifhorst and is the latest iteration of childhood pastimes being turned into supersized formats, with Banijay unveiling Game of Chairs - inspired by the traditional game of musical chairs - earlier this year.

John de Mol, founder of Talpa Studios, said the size of the set “gives the format a scale and level of immersion that truly define its character and makes it ideal for primetime.”

Allison Wallach, head of unscripted at Fox Entertainment Studios, added that the show “has all the makings of a breakout format we could create together - bold scale, smart game design and a premise every viewer understands in seconds.”

Talpa and Fox have worked on numerous shows over recent years, including adaptations of The Floor and The Quiz with Balls.

The House of Hide & Seek was created by Talpa Studios and Grifhorst in creative partnership with Fox Entertainment Studios and produced by Talpa Studios.
