The Spanish show is being produced by Warner Bros. International TV Production and Talpa Studios, with recording taking place at the show’s hub in the Netherlands. A broadcast date is yet to be determined.

The format will make its debut on RTL Nederland on 9 May and marks the latest deal between Talpa and RTVE, which has recently adapted the Dutch company’s formats The Floor and Trivial Pursuit.

The broadcaster has been behind a flurry of fornat activity over the past 12 months. It has greenlit deals for local versions of All3Media’s Race Across The World and NBCUniversal’s dating show Baggage struck, while Spanish versions of The Chase, That’s My Jam, MasterChef and The Pyramid have also been greenlit.

The House of Hide & Seek is inspired by the classic children’s game and was created and developed by Talpa Studios, David Grifhorst, and Fox Entertainment Studios.

Talpa struck an innovative deal with Fox on the format, with the US broadcaster taking a stake in the IP before it was even produced for RTL Nederland.

Jasper Hoogendoorn, chief creative officer at Talpa Studios, said recently that the deal had allowed his company to build a more ambitious set for the Dutch version and to produce a US pilot, although a Stateside version has not yet been confirmed.

The House of Hide & Seek sees celebrity contestants hiding in a gigantic two-story house, which contains more than 120 hiding spots.

Secret passages, unexpected doors and concealed spaces will give the house “an escape-room-like thrill”, Talpa said, with contestants required to solve visual puzzles to secure prizes while avoiding being found.

Sebastian van Barneveld, director of global distribution at Talpa Studios, added: “The format combines a universally loved game with an ambitious studio setup, making it instantly accessible while delivering real scale and excitement.

“With Fox Entertainment Studios and David Grifhorst as creative partners, this project truly reflects the power of international collaboration.”

The format was unveiled in December, shortly before Banijay Entertainment revealed it had picked up international rights to Finnish format All Star Hide and Seek.
