M6 in France has ordered a local version of A Party To Die For, the murder mystery format from ITV Studios and Talpa Studios.

Murder Party au Musée hails from ITV Studios France and is in production at the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris.

The format was created by ITV Studios Netherlands and John de Mol’s Talpa Studios, with ITVS distributing internationally.

Talpa-owned SBS6 has also ordered a second series of the show, which debuted its first episode in 2023 and aired its first season in 2024.

Francis Huster has been drafted in to host the French version of the format, which brings together a host of celebrities who find out that a murder has been committed by one of them.

Each celebrity then becomes a suspect and must face a series of challenges — solo, in pairs, or in teams — to uncover the killer. Clues and revelations are collected along the way, all within the closed setting of the story.

Pierre Guillaume Ledan, deputy managing director of unscripted programming at M6 Group, said: “We immediately loved this format because it ticks so many boxes: it’s a concept that feels very current, reminiscent of a famous mystery game but with real staging, humour, and suspense.

“It’s a family-friendly, intergenerational show that can bring together young and old around a life-sized whodunit.”

John de Mol’s Talpa Studios has been expanding its format team recently, hiring one of the key talents behind hit reality format The Traitors as its chief creative officer in January.

Jasper Hoogendoorn was most recently creative director at Netherlands-based All3Media label IDTV, which was behind the De Verraders show that has gone on to be remade as The Traitors in more than 30 countries.

The original show debuted on RTL4 in the Netherlands in 2021 and was developed by Hoogendoorn and Marc Pos, who struck a deal with Banijay last year.
