Netflix and AMC Studios have struck an intriguing first-of-its kind coproduction pact, with an adaptation of John R. Maxim’s Paul Bannerman novels the first project to be greenlit.

Bannerman, which is being produced by AMC Studios, will premiere on AMC in the US and Canada before becoming available on Netflix in North America 90 days after its season finale.

Netflix and AMC will jointly premiere each episode in Australia, New Zealand, and Spain, with the global streamer debuting the show exclusively in all other countries.

The show follows a former covert operative named Paul Bannerman, whose attempts to persuade fellow assassins to retire and move to Connecticut are foiled by old enemies, a paranoid government and an unrelenting ex-police man.

Craig Silverstein (Nikita) is showrunner, writer and exec producer alongside Shane Black (Lethal Weapon), who co-wrote the premiere and will direct the first two episodes.

Creepshow duo Greg Nicotero and Brian Witten also exec produce the show, which was has been in the works since 2023 when AMC Studios first acquired rights to the novels.

The project is the first to emerge from the nascent coproduction agreement, which extends Netflix and AMC’s lengthy partnership that started with the streamer taking rights to Breaking Bad more than 15 years ago. More recently, AMC’s hit franchise The Walking Dead was picked up by Netflix in a deal valued at around $500m.

Dan McDermott, chief content officer of AMC Global Media and president of AMC Studios, described the show as “the perfect premium drama to kick off our first co-production with Netflix, and we are thrilled to continue evolving and expanding our partnership by jointly developing and producing select original series for our respective platforms.”

Details of other projects on the slate have not yet been revealed.
