Somebody Feed Phil

Phil Rosenthal’s Netflix show Somebody Feed Phil is moving to YouTube as part of a non-exclusive deal involving Banijay Americas and Banijay Rights.

The agreement between the Banijay companies and Rosenthal’s label Lucky Bastards will see new episodes of the series moving to a new Phil Rosenthal World YouTube Channel from 2027, with short- and long-form original content on offer.

Banijay said the move “establishes YouTube as the central hub for the brand,” although the first eight seasons will remain on Netflix as part of the agreement.

Banijay Americas and distributor Banijay Rights will be named as partners on the show, providing support across production, digital channel management and monetisation, as well as global distribution and brand partnership strategy.

The collaboration also aims to create opportunities for brand partners, platforms and tourism boards to participate in the show, which sees Rosenthal travelling the world tasting local cuisines.

“By removing paywalls and maximising accessibility, the strategy is designed to significantly increase reach, deepen cultural impact and accelerate audience growth,” Banijay said of the deal.

Numerous shows from YouTube creators such as Ms Rachel and The Sidemen’s Inside have moved from the Google-owned service to Netflix, but few in the opposite direction.

Rosenthal added: “One of the things I always loved about Everybody Loves Raymond was that it was free to watch everywhere. We are thrilled to announce that Somebody Feed Phil will move to YouTube, where our message of family, friendship, food, travel, and laughs can reach the most people.”

Banijay America chief Ben Samek added: “Phil Rosenthal is one of the rare creators who consistently stays ahead of where the industry is going.

“YouTube represents a natural evolution and a place where audiences can engage with his voice and humor as we build a global digital home for Phil Rosenthal World.”

Cathy Payne, chief exec at Banijay Rights, said her organisation’s “forward-thinking approach to YouTube and digital monetisation” was reflected by the deal, with FAST and AVoD activity in the works.
