Locally produced content makes up less than 20% of viewing across the four biggest standalone streamers in the UK and Spain, according to exclusive data seen by Broadcast International.

Viewing minutes of UK shows (including local productions and coproductions) by subscribers of Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+ and Prime Video in the UK stood at 19% of all watch time available.

That contrasts with UK shows making up 11.5% of all viewing minutes available on the four streamers, which translates into 13.5% of local titles.

The data, from analytics firm Digital i, accounts for viewing between January-September 2025 and tells a similar story among viewers in Spain.

Here, 19.9% of viewer minutes were spent watching local content, which made up 13.5% of total viewing minutes (or 8.7% of titles) available across the streamers.

Viewing habits in Asian duo South Korea and Japan told a different story, however.

South Korea’s 26.5% of local production minutes available attracted 56.5% of minutes watched, while the 35.6% of local content avalable in Japan accounted for 62.3% of all viewing minutes.

Meanwhile, domestic shows dominated viewing in the US, with the 53.7% of locally produced minutes accounting for 79.5% of minutes watched.
