Canadian and Norwegian public broadcasters CBC And NRK are teaming up for an international comedy from the creators of Norsemen.

The Posse, which hails from Banijay Nordic indie Rubicon TV and Toronto-based New Metric Media, is an 1800s-set absurdist, character-driven comedy following a privileged and oblivious Norwegian heir who ventures to the American Wild West in search of inspiration for his novel, dragging a reluctant group of companions along with him.

It is created and written by Jon Iver Helgaker and Jonas Torgersen who created hit Netflix Viking comedy Norsemen.

The Canadian-Norwegian co-production is exec produced by Rubicon TV’s Ivar Køhn and New Metric Media’s Mark Montefiore. Gudny Hummelvoll and Lana Maclin and Max Wolfond will produce for Rubicon and New Metric, respectively. Sarah Babineau and Kent Alterman will exec produce through Good Walk Entertainment.

New Metric Media is handling worldwide distribution for The Posse, with Rubicon representing the series in Scandinavian territories.

Køhn, Rubicon TV’s chief executive, said: “The Posse is a classic fish-out-of-water comedy, contrasting a fortunate Norwegian upbringing with the harsh and unpredictable reality of the Wild West.

“Jon and Jonas perfectly reflect the distinct sharpness of Norwegian comedy, and this project allows them to bring their tone and originality into a story with clear international appeal.”
