See-Saw Films is partnering with Mediawan stablemate Miraculous Corp on the first live-action adaptation of the latter’s hit animation Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir.

The duo will co-develop and co-produce the series, which is intended to reach a broader and older audience than the cartoon, while still appealing to the franchise’s large fandom.

The Paris-set series is being adapted by Emme Hoy, who served as a writer and co-executive producer on series two of See-Saw’s thriller Sweetpea, which is set to air on Sky next month and Starz in early 2027. She has also written multiple episodes of Sid Gentle’s espionage drama Honey, which is set to TX soon on BBC1.

Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir follows the hardworking, kind and endearingly flawed Marinette - who is convinced she must be perfect to be loved - and her classmate Adrien, who is charming, effortless and has never once been allowed to choose his own life.

By day they are classmates, circling each other with a chemistry neither can quite name, but by night, they are masked superheroes Ladybug and Cat Noir, who fight crime side-by-side, not realising the other’s identity.

The live-action series is executive produced by Maria Nicholson, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Simon Gillis and Ben Irving for See-Saw, and Hoy, with See-Saw’s Nicky Earnshaw serves as a co-producer. Worldwide sales are handled by Mediawan Rights.

The French animated series was created by Thomas Astruc, Jeremy Zag and Nathanaël Bronn and is in its sixth series, having first aired in 2015. It is distributed by Mediawan Kids & Family in more than 150 countries and is available on platforms and broadcasters such as Disney+, Netflix, Globo and TF1. It also boasts 54 million YouTube subscribers, with an average of 900 million monthly views.

Nicholson said: “Miraculous has always been, at its heart, a story about the distance between who we are and who we let people see. Live action gives us the space to really feel that – to let it breathe, to let it hurt.

“At See-Saw, we’re aiming to build something with the emotional intimacy of a great romance and the scale of a genuinely epic superhero story. I think audiences are going to fall in love with these characters all over again.”

Heath Kenny, chief content officer at Miraculous Corp, added: “This is a defining next step for the franchise - for the first time, we are bringing Marinette and Adrien’s story into live action, in a bold new format designed both for the millions of fans who have grown up with them and for audiences discovering this extraordinary world for the first time.”

Elisabeth d’Arvieu, Mediawan’s group chief ontent Offoicer and chief executive of Mediawan Pictures, said: “This project illustrates the strength of Mediawan’s international studio model: its ability to bring together renowned creative talent, leading production expertise and a shared ambition behind one of the world’s most popular animated franchises.”
