TV4 becomes tenth buyer of Norwegian format following its launch last year
Sweden’s TV4 has become the first broadcaster to produce a civilian version of buzzy reality format The Box.
The show, created by Norway’s Seefood TV, will be known locally as Boxen and sees 13 ordinary Swedes thrust into unpredictable challenges they know nothing about as they emerge from each container.
TV4’s version will be hosted by presenter Pär Lernström, with another as-yet unnamed broadcaster also primed to launch a civilian version of the format.
The format launched on TV2 in Norway in January 2024 and a second season recently wrapped filming.
It has since been commissioned in 10 countries, including ITV in the UK and TF1 in France following deals with creator, producer and distributor Seefood TV.
ITV’s celebrity-led version was unveiled earlier this year and taken out to tender, with former footballer Gary Lineker attached to host.
Aleksander Herresthal, format creator and partner at Seefood TV, said the civilian version “shows how universally the format resonates and how flexible it is in scale, tone and casting.”
