Fresh Cuts: ITV recently renewed diverse directors strand

ITV was crowned best broadcaster for new talent for the second year running at the Edinburgh TV Foundation’s New Voice Awards. 

The broadcaster, which launched first-time diverse directors strand Fresh Cuts last year, was up against Channel 4 for the prize, which aims to make the industry more accessible and provide a platform for rising stars.

Meanwhile, Fully Focussed Productions, the youth-focussed production company behind BBC3’s PRU, was named best company for new talent, and YAFTA Talent Agency picked up best agency.

In new talent categories, the critically acclaimed BBC1 police drama The Responder secured author Tony Schumacher the debut writer award, while Karim Kahn won the debut writer (episodic) award for an episode of All Creatures Great and Small on Channel 5. 

Channel 4 shows scooped two prizes. Sophie King was awarded debut director in scripted for her All4 series Disability Benefits, while the debut presenter prize was won by Runako Celina for C4’s Damilola: Racism For Sale. 

In unscripted, Olivia Isaacs won debut director for her BBC3 doc Eddie Hall: The Beast vs The Mountain, Faris Rai won future presenter, and screenwriter Delia-Rene Donaldson was awarded mentor of the year.
