Billy Monger Toyota What Moves Us

Billy Monger and Toyota have launched What Moves Us, a YouTube show following people helped by the Every Body Moves programme from Toyota and ParalympicsGB.

The five-part series sees Monger, a former racing driver and double amputee, interview and mentor young people with disabilities who are building active lives, helped by the Every Body Moves initiative.

The first film introduces Alfie, a promising basketball player who had a foot amputated following a car accident. Monger learns about how he has adjusted to life after surgery and helps him explore ways of continuing to enjoy the sport he loves. You can watch this episode below.

Other subjects include Khianna who lost her sight and is regaining her confidence and independence through horse riding; Lois, who had a leg amputated when a baby but wants build her confidence through running; and William, who has cerebral palsy and has found a new sense of purpose through wheelchair rugby.

What Moves Us is produced by SBX Studios, who recently spoke to the Broadcast Sport Podcast about how athletes are now taking a larger role in production.

Monger said: “I know from my own experience how much sport and movement can change our outlook and give you something to work towards. With What Moves Us I wanted to take the conversations I’ve been having with people facing similar challenges and find ways to help them move forward in their own lives.

“Everyone’s journey is different, but having the right support and community can help you see what’s possible. It’s been brilliant getting to know everyone and seeing what sport and movement mean to them.”

Emma Johnson, Toyota (GB) director, brand and customer experience, said: “We believe in enabling mobility for all, with no one left behind. Mobility is about more than simply getting from A to B. It’s about helping people access the experiences, connections and opportunities that matter to them. What Moves Us brings this to life through Billy’s experiences and the stories of the people he meets, showing how inclusive opportunities in sport and movement can help people build confidence and discover new possibilities.

“Working with Billy on this project will also increase awareness of the Every Body Moves programme which is helping disabled people across the UK discover local opportunities to take part in sports and physical activities.”
