A new ‘Sports Commentator of the Year’ category has been added to the Awards following repeated requests from broadcasters

Sport Awards

Broadcast Sport has added a ‘Sports Commentator of the Year’ category to the Broadcast Sport Awards 2022.

The category has been created after we received multiple requests to specifically honour the unique skills of the sports commentator.

The new category recognises the sports commentator who has provided consistently engaging and insightful coverage of sporting events during the last 12-months.

The sports commentator can be working in radio or TV, or across both, and be providing commentary on any sport.

The entry will be judged on the commentator’s ability to demonstrate real in-depth knowledge of the action as it unfolds, putting it in context, keeping both ardent fans of the sport and newcomers informed, entertained, and glued to what’s going on.

The category covers commentary for a sports events between 11 September 2021 and 11 September 2022. The Sports Commentator of the Year category is open for entries now.

What are the Broadcast Sport Awards?

The Broadcast Sport Awards shine the spotlight on the best in sports content. It’s the second year of the Awards, following a triumphant first year sold out event at JW Marriott Grosvenor House, Park Lane (see highlights below).

The Broadcast Sport Awards 2022 will take place in a bigger venue this year - the London Hilton on Park Lane – to satisfy demand for tickets.

The Awards bring together broadcasters, production companies and rights holders/federations to celebrate the best in sports content over the last year.

The categories honour the full range of sports content, from live sports coverage and documentaries to original and short-form content, whether linear, digital or OTT/D2C.

The deadline for entries is 2 September 2022.

The shortlist will be announced on 19 September 2022, and an expert judging panel of industry leaders will then decide the final winners in each category.

The winners will be revealed at the Broadcast Sport Awards 2022 gala dinner on 1 November 2022 at London Hilton on Park Lane.

The Broadcast Sport Awards 2022 are sponsored by EMG, base, IMG Replay and NEP and Timeline.
