BT Sport will embed a Dolby Atmos audio feed in its live Ultra HD football coverage for the first time next week when it covers Liverpool versus Chelsea in the Premier League.

The 31 January fixture at Anfield will be captured in 4K and Dolby Atmos by OB facilities provider Telegenic with BT Sport Ultra HD subscribers able to listen to the next generation audio format if they have a compatible soundbar or home cinema system.

BT Sport has been working with Dolby for 18 months to get the proprietary three-dimensional surround sound system into its live production chain.

Closed trials have been carried out with further tests planned for this weekend’s FA Cup coverage.

West Ham United versus Manchester City on 1 February will also be available with Dolby Atmos, this time provided by an Arena Television OB truck.

BT Sport chief operating officer Jamie Hindhaugh said: “Our absolute driver for this is to make TV viewers feel like they are at the game.”
