Channel 5 is launching a reality gameshow that sees contestants having to become experts on their opponent's specialist subject, writes Georgina Lipscomb.

Swapheads , a 12 x 30-minute series, was commissioned by controller of entertainment Andrew Newman and will be produced by Endemol UK Productions, and will be presented by Johnny Ball.

In the first episode, a Britney Spears fan swaps subjects with an expert in the history of the Third Reich and both are given one day to become experts on their new topics. Executive produced by Tim Hincks and Richard Osman and series produced by Richard Hague, the show will air from 30 July.

Meanwhile, C5 has unveiled the new music series to replace The Pepsi Chart Show, which was axed in May.

Pop , which is to be produced by Endemol UK production arm Initial, was commissioned by controller of youth, music and interactive Sham Sandhu. It will be presented by Matt Brown and Lauren Laverne.

Sandhu said: 'It is the crown jewel of our music programming. It will be more about spotting trends and showcasing new talent rather than feeling like an imitation of what's already out there.'

The 24 x 30-minute series will air from 1 August and will be filmed in Dave Stewart's Marquee in north London. It will feature live and pre-recorded acts, as well as music news.

The series producer is Dave Skinner, who also series produced The Pepsi Chart Show.
