Channel 4 has ordered a one-hour single documenting the civil war in Myanmar.

Myanmar: The Forgotten Revolution is produced by Children of the Caliphate indie Evan Williams Productions and features exclusive video footage and eye witness accounts of the nations’ descent into civil war as its army tries to crush the civilian uprising against military rule.

The doc will present new evidence of how the army has committed potential war crimes, with soldiers targeting peaceful protestors and people trying to help the wounded, as well as setting people on fire while they appeared to still be alive.

The doc, filmed over the course of a year by a group of young Myanmarese activists, will also investigate why the international community has failed to reply to the call for help made by protestors after the 2021 coup.

It was commissioned for C4 by Nevine Mabro, commissioning editor for news and current affairs. It is exec produced by Evan Williams and produced and directed by Katie Arnold.

“This is a really important piece of journalism on a revolution that the world has forgotten. Through forensic investigation, unseen videos and eyewitness accounts, the film reveals the brutal actions of the Myanmar army and shows how the country is slipping into civil war,” said Mabro.

Williams said that the young activists “risked their lives” to film the doc and gather evidence of possible war crimes.

“Above all this is a film about the determined spirit of a new generation who refuse to allow their futures to be dominated and as they see it, their opportunities stolen, by a military dictatorship,” he added.

The doc is expected to air at the end of this month.
