As funds fail to materialise VFX house Clear has been forced to make emergency cuts after promises of funding for its planned telecine suite fell through.

Fourteen members of staff were made redundant on Tuesday (28 June) to slim down operations at the Soho post house, which has previously manipulated shots for Shamelessand Island at War. Managing director Greg Caplan believes the cuts, which leave the company with 35 staff, will be enough for it to ride the current "blip". No senior members of staff or senior editors have been made redundant.

Caplan said: "We're fighting very hard. We had promises of funding that didn't materialise so we've had to cancel the [£2.5m] telecine investment and make 14 redundancies."

Colourist Mick Vincent, who was due to join Clear next week ( Broadcast,7.04.05), will no longer be joining as the Spirit 4K grading suite he was to run will not be installed in the near future. Vincent is set to leave VTR next week.
