Formula One Management special cameras engineer Michael Colyer has been given the Royal Television Society’s (RTS) annual Young Technologist Award.

Colyer, who is part of a team responsible for maintaining, developing and deploying Formula One Management’s camera systems, joined the company having studied Outside Broadcast Technology (BSc) at Ravensbourne.

Chair of the RTS Young Technologist Award jury Terry Marsh said: “Michael impressed the jury with his obvious commitment to the industry, his love of innovative special camera systems, and his technical know-how.”

The panel included YouView chief architect Jeff Hunter,  former head of Olympic Broadcasting for OBS Paul Mason, managing director of Accenture UK and Ireland’s technology division Emma McGuigan, Colt Technology Services Media Business Development and Strategy director Paul Stanley  and Fujitsu chief technology officer Jon Wrennal.
