Glassworks Post Production used a new ?retiming' plug-in, developed by The Foundry for Apple's Shake compositor, on a new commercial for mobile phone company Orange.

The Kronos tool, which is part of the new Furnace sparks set, was put to use to cope with the problem of transparent foreground objects passing over a solid background. ?As usual the deadline was tight. None of the retimers we tried could handle this scenario, but The Foundry's Kronos plug-in within Furnace dealt with it easily,' explained Inferno artist Rachel Mills of Glassworks.

Furnace, the result of two years' research and development, which effects houses were closely involved with, is a brand new suite of plug-ins designed to deal with many complex day-to-day compositing problems.

Multiple Furnace and render licences have already been purchased by Double Negative in the UK and ESC Entertainment in the US, which both participated in the Furnace beta test programme. Furnace has a list price of£3,000 ($5,000) per licence. Render licences have a list price of£600 ($1,000). Furnace is likely to be ported for use on other compositing platforms including Discreet in the near future.
