Discreet has bought Unreal Pictures, developer of the award-winning character animation tool Character Studio. The move brings Character Studio in-house after nearly four years of collaboration, tying it permanently to Discreet's 3ds Max. Discreet now has full intellectual property and patent ownership to Unreal software and, importantly, retains the services of software scientists Dr Michael Girard and Susan Amkraut. 'This acquisition puts us in a pre-eminent position as we bring the technology forward,' said software sales manager, EMEA Mark Powell. Discreet would not confirm the cost of the purchase.
