TF1 orders six-part adaptation
BBC1 thriller Doctor Foster is being remade in France by Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp TV.
The seven-year-old studio optioned the rights to the scripted format from BBC Worldwide France, and will adapt the series for French broadcaster TF1.
TF1 has ordered six episodes and will co-develop the project, while BBC France is on board to co-produce.
The series, which is being penned by Helene Duchateau and Baptiste Filleul, is in the early development stage.
BBC Worldwide, which is handling international sales, said there has been “lots of international interest” for the scripted format, with discussions ongoing in a number of markets.
Drama Republic’s Doctor Foster starred Suranne Jones as a woman looking to expose her husband’s affair.
Launching in September 2015, the show became BBC1’s highest-rated new drama of the year after gripping 8.2m (31.3%) across its five-part run.
BBC1 ordered a second series of the drama in November 2015, and it is expected to return this year.
Speaking to Variety, EuropaCorp TV chief executive Thomas Anargyros called Doctor Foster a “true genre-bender” and said the adaptation will closely parallel the original, though it would be set in a provincial town and have a “French flavour”.
