Five is to stream a daily online bingo show in a bid to drive traffic to its web gaming operation.
The broadcaster, which is pushing to broaden its revenues beyond traditional TV advertising, will air The Free Bingo Show each weekday at 11am. The 60-minute show is made by Two Way Media and presented by Charlie McArdle. It will be hosted at http://www3.five.tv/freebingogame/ and be promoted on both the main TV channel and the www.five.tv website.
Viewers can win cash prizes but registration and the games themselves are free for adults over 18.
Five launched branded bingo and casino e-gaming services in August following a deal with listed online gaming company, PartyGaming.
Five head of digital media Jonathan Lewis said the business model that underpins commercial TV was changing.
“Gaming activities such as Five’s online bingo and casino services are just one such example of how broadcasters can broaden their revenue base beyond traditional sources,” he said.
Five has already taken advantage of relaxation in Ofcom regulation to air interactive gaming show SuperCasino.com during an overnight block.
