IBC 2015: Harmonic’s demonstrations at this year’s IBC will include a platform for channel origination and delivery of SD, HD and Ultra HD/4K content.

The company will also showcase its new Electra X advanced media processor family along with the new Spectrum X advanced media server system, which aims to ease the transition to IP broadcast workflows by integrating SDI and IP I/O on the same chassis.

Key demonstrations at the Harmonic booth will include a fully automated, virtualised IP workflow for content origination and delivery to first and second screens, powered by Harmonic VOS technology and featuring the Electra XVM virtualised media processor controlled by the Polaris Advance integrated channel playout automation system.

The booth will also showcase a live UHD workflow, including real-time UHD 2160p60 encoding, powered by the software-based Electra X3 advanced media processor, a first full-frame UHD encoder in a single 2-RU, and UHD playout with real-time graphics and branding from the Spectrum X media server, a complete UHD capable channel-in-a-box system with Polaris playout management.

Other demos will include real-time HEVC encoding with high dynamic range using Dolby Vision imaging technology integrated with the Electra X2 media processor, real-time VBR HEVC encoding and statistical multiplexing of progressive and interlaced HD content, compressed IP output on the Spectrum X media server of branded SD and HD channels via AVC compression, and 4:2:2 10-bit AVC HD contribution encoding, featuring broadcast-quality video transport over the Internet.

In addition to the demonstrations at the Harmonic booth, Harmonic VP of video strategy Thierry Fautier, who is also president of the Ultra HD Forum, will speak at the several conference sessions.
