The DTG (Digital TV Group) has appointed Keith Hayler as chair of its new Technical Oversight Group (TOG).

The DTG said it had broadened its focus to reflect the increased diversity of technical areas that DTG members are involved in.

Its activity will now be divided into individual work streams, ranging from Ultra HD to video to mobile, with each reporting into the newly created TOG.

Hayler, who has forty years experience in the broadcast industry, with an engineering career that spans DTT, satellite and radio technologies, will lead the TOG as an independent chair and will report the progress of each work stream into DTG Council.

“Having worked with the DTG since the start, I am really looking forward to taking on this new position,” he said.

“It’s an exciting time for the DTG and the television industry in general, with more technologies in play than ever before and I’m looking forward to working with Richard and the team.”

DTG chairman David Docherty added: “The DTG is changing to keep pace with a fast-moving industry and it is exactly this level of technical expertise and breadth of experience that’s needed as we move into 2014.

“I’m delighted Keith has agreed to bring his considerable talents to the role and I’m very much looking forward to working with him.”

Hayler will start in his new role in January.
