Former Mentorn development head Matthew Clifton joins River Monsters indie
Icon Films has picked up former Mentorn Media development head Matthew Clifton to help spearhead its burgeoning factual slate.
Clifton has already commenced his newly created head of development role at the River Monsters indie, working on the outfit’s UK factual output and reporting to head of factual Stephen McQuillan.
In his three years at Tinopolis-owned Mentorn, Clifton worked on Channel 4’s Crazy About One Direction and The Fried Chicken Shop, along with the recently cancelled Robot Wars reboot for BBC2.
McQuillan described the former Ricochet and Rise Films development exec as having “one of the brightest development brains in the UK”.
He added: “As he has shown throughout his career he is brilliantly creative, brings huge energy to the room and a whole new dimension to our development effort.”
Clifton, who has also held in-house roles with the BBC and MTV, said: “I’m thrilled to be joining such a long established and creative company as they start an exciting new chapter in their history.”
He will be contributing to a slate that includes More4 series Animal Airport, Jeremy Wade’s Mighty Rivers, which was recently acquired by ITV, and Animal Planet’s Lost Kingdom of the Yeti.
