Ascent Media (formerly Liberty Livewire) has revealed that Paul Jones is to be the managing director of One Post, the facility formed as a result of the merger of Soho 601 and SVC, writes Sam Espensen.

The move means that SVC managing director David Robins will leave the group when Jones takes over next month.

Jones, who was managing director at Soho 601, previously worked at Rushes for 12 years, starting as a VT operator and finishing as facilities director. He has been managing director at the Dean Street facility since July. Robins has been at SVC for 17 years, including four as managing director.

The decision to hire Jones over Robins has caused some surprise within Soho and led one industry insider to comment: "David has a lot of financial experience so, perhaps, they're looking for someone with more of a people background."

Robins will leave the company once the merger goes ahead without a job to go to. Ascent Media UK president Mark Hewitt told Broadcastit has been "David's decision to make this break. He has led the company through a number of major changes and we're extremely grateful to him."

Decisions are also to be made this week about the number of redundancies expected as a result of the merger. A Soho 601 employee said: "It's worrying, but we really want to just get on so we can start looking forward."
