Soho’s Mill TV is creating visual effects shots for Coronation Street’s 50th year anniversary episode.

A number of shots are being produced for a special episode of the ITV soap that will see the viaduct at the end of the famous street collapse, sending a tram careering off the bridge and onto the cobbles below.

The Mill team will use a combination of Maya and Nuke, which are also used for effects work on Doctor Who.

Mill TV executive VFX producer Will Cohen said:  “Coronation Street is one of the nation’s biggest and much loved shows so we are honoured to be working alongside executive producer Phil Collinson, with whom we collaborated on Doctor Who, and the team from ITV Granada to help support the dramatic storyline.”

ITV1 will screen a special week of episodes, building up to the 50th anniversary on 9 December.
