Canopus is the only system that currently supports this format, with Avid and Apple in the final stages of development.

The 720/50p format has been recommended by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) as the best HD format when combined with low bit rates.

The progressive format is understood to perform much better than the 1080i format and somewhat better than the 1080p standard while there are still bandwidth limitations in the cable network.
